The Restoration Hutt

Preserving history

In our Halesowen workshop, we stabilise structurally compromised heirlooms, revive original finishes to a beautiful patina and use period-correct techniques and materials to preserve and enhance your treasured antiques.

Our lineage

Honoring original cabinetmakers

We operate with a deep respect for historical joinery. Every repair is executed using period-accurate materials, hand-mixed hide glues, and traditional techniques that preserve both structural integrity and historical value.

A successful restoration never looks brand new. It remains rich with its hard-earned patina, stabilized and ready to withstand another century of daily use and family history.

Patina preservation

We keep a large stock of period timbers, veneers and furniture hardware for use in our projects. Where reversibility is crucial, we always use appropriate, protein based adhesives(hide, fish, rabbit skin etc)

We reject modern polyurethane sprays. Finishes are built up coat by coat using hand-rubbed shellac for a deep, authentic luster.

Unlike some "restorers" we never remove original finishes unless absolutely necessary. Experience tells us that historic shellac and wax based finishes can almost always be revived or reworked to a fine patina.
